Am I Losing my Passion for Idol?

Why is it this season, no matter how hard I seem to try, I'm just not getting into American Idol as much this year as in past years? Did Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice set the bar so high in season four that I've set unreasonable expectations for the show the past three seasons? Now I know season five had a lot of good talent - Chris Daughtry (who as we all know really should have won), Kellie Pickler, Bucky Covington and Elliot Yamin all have had quite a lot of success in their post-A.I. careers. Last year's contestants overall though have been pretty disappointing in their to-date post-Idol careers - though winner Jordin Sparks has had some success with two top 10 pop hits to date.

It's pretty clear to me (and many others) that David Archuleta is the man to beat this year. Tonight, the 12 finalists covered songs of the Beatles. Quite honestly, the contestants overall didn't do a very good job. Yes, there were a few good moments, but for the most part, the performances were (as Simon would say) a tad on the bland side. Even David had an off night... Perhaps someone will rise up these next 11 weeks and make me a fan.. or maybe they will have a special guest sing one night and totally blow my socks off. For now I'm just kind of watching, waiting for to someone other than David to truly impress me and stand out.
