Golf's "Fifth Major"

Today, play starts in one of professional golf's most prestigious tournaments - The Players Championship. The tournament annually boasts the best field of the entire year in golf and features many challenging holes including the world famous island green 17th hole. At only 135 or so yards the 17th only requires only a short iron, however, if you even slightly mishit your shot or misclub you'll end up in the water. You're almost as likely to see a seven as a birdie on this hole, and yes even double digit scores have been posted here in the past by pros!

Who will win? Well, it's always tough to predict a winner as rarely does the "hot" player actually do well in this tournament. Tiger Woods won in 2001, but hasn't placed in the top 10 since. Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els have yet to win it... Will one of the big names win it, or will some virtual unknown such as Stephen Ames win again like last year? Coverage of the tournament begins live today at 12PM ET/9AM PT on The Golf Channel and continues for seven hours. TGC covers the tournament again tomorrow. NBC will begin it's ten hours of weekend coverage of the tournament beginning at 2PM ET/11 AM ET on Saturday.

It's another huge day for Carrie Underwood as her "Some Hearts" CD has now been certified 6x Platinum for shipments totalling more than 6 million here in the U.S. I made a bold prediction well over a year ago that her CD would end up reaching this prestigious milesone... and with the way things are going for Carrie it may end up at 7x Platinum or beyond!
