Leona Hits #1 Again!

After 10 week runs at number one on both the Pop and Hot AC charts, there really was only one music chart left for Leona Lewis to conquer here in the U.S... and after waiting seemingly forever, she finally has reached the top of the Adult Contemporary chart. With this morning's update, "Bleeding Love" reached the #1 position, knocking off another song to reach #1 on all three charts, "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles.

Leona is now ascending the pop chart here in the U.S. with her second single, "Better In Time" which has already reached the #20 position and is also the biggest airplay gainer on the entire chart the past week. While it would be crazy to think that "Better In Time" would be able to be as massive a hit as "Bleeding Love" was, it's not out of the question for the song to duplicate her first hit's success and hit #1 on the pop chart. Congratulations to Leona on another #1 and her continued incredible success here in the U.S.!!!

Leona Scores Rare Double-Double!

Six months ago, if you said the name Leona Lewis here in the U.S., it's very likley you would have had no idea who she was. Fast forward to present day, where Leona has a number one and platinum debut album in Spirit, along with a single in "Bleeding Love" which has sold over 2.6 million downloads in America this year. FYI, it's the most downloaded song of the 2008 calendar year so far.

While Leona's sales achievements are impressive, the accomplishments of "Bleeding Love" continue to mount. It recently set all-time records for spins and estimated listening audience on the Mediabase CHR/Pop chart during it's 10 week run at the top earlier this year. This week, Leona moves into some truly elite compnay as "Bleeding Love" spends it's 10th week on top of the Mediabase Hot Adult Contemporary chart. In doing so, it becomes the second song EVER to spend double-digit weeks on top of both charts! In 1998, Natalie Imbruglia's #1 hit "Torn" spent 11 weeks on top of the CHR/Pop chart, to go along with 13 weeks on top of the Hot AC chart. Yes, this is a VERY rare accomplishment... In fact, no other song has ever spent nine or more weeks on top of both charts (though several have spent eight or more on top of both).

Congratulations to Leona on yet another incredible accomplishment! By the way, her follow-up single "Better In Time" is doing just fine, already at #33 less than two weeks since it went for adds with over 3/4 of the reporting panel playing it. Today alone, "Better" gained 162 more spins. Yes, Leona's got another HUGE hit on her hands here!

Getting Better In Time

Well, as some of you may know, it's the "official" radio adds date for the latest single by Leona Lewis called "Better In Time." The song has already garnered enough support at radio to crack the top 50, debuting at that position on Sunday on the Mediabase pop chart. Though I don't think the song is going to be the huge (10 week at #1) hit "Bleeding Love" was, I do expect "Better In Time" to be a very big (top 5) hit that will help push sales of Leona's Spirit album towards double platinum status here in the U.S.!

Leona Bleeds Into Rare Air: 10 Weeks at # 1!!!

The legend of Leona Lewis and her first hit "Bleeding Love" continues to grow here in America and all around the world. The smash hit has reached #1 in some 30 countries to date. Yesterday, it accomplished a VERY rare feat here on the U.S. Pop airplay charts, spending it's 10th consecutive week at #1! It's the first song to have double-digit weeks at the summit since Mariah Carey's comeback hit "We Belong Together" spent 11 weeks there in 2005. A quick look at the top 4 of the official chart which will be in Tuesday's edition of USA Today:

Sadly, it doesn't look like "Bleeding Love" will have a chance to match Mariah or tie the all-time record of 12 weeks at #1 held by the 1995 Donna Lewis hit "I Love You Always Forever." It should fall below Rihanna's "Take A Bow" tomorrow on the charts. Still, for a debut song which got off to a fairly slow start to do this well, not to mention set the all-time weekly records for pop spins (10,993 on 5/4/08) and largest estimated listening audience (74,527,000 on 5/7/08) is some pretty big news and something to be VERY proud of!

"Bleeding Love" also spends it's fifth straight week on top of the Hot AC chart, with an even 4,000 spins. It also remains at #2 behind Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" on the Adult Contemporary chart.

So what's next for Leona here in the U.S.??? Well, her second single, "Better In Time" is due to go to pop radio for adds on July 15th. The buzz is already starting to grow on this song, as three weeks prior to the adds date it's already cracked the top 75 of the pop chart! Leona Spends Week #8 on Top!

It's been almost six months now since I happened to stumble upon the song "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis on a MySpace page... hooked from the first listen, I knew the song was destined for some big things here in America... About three months ago, I made a bold prediction that the song would spend seven weeks on top of the pop airplay charts. Well, it appears that my prediction wasn't bold enough as "Bleeding Love" just spent it's eighth consecutive week on top of the pop chart!!! With a lead of nearly 2,000 spins over the next song, it appears Leona's a safe bet for at least one more week at the top, though I'd really LOVE to see her get to double digits... 5 Weeks at #1 for Leona!

The latest and greatest airplay charts are out, and once again Leona Lewis' huge hit "Bleeding Love" is on top. With over 10,000 spins at pop radio for a fourth consecutive week, "Bleeding Love" has already smashed the all-time chart records for most spins in a week with 10,993 and most estimated listening audience with over 74.1 million during the same week. With the next nearest song nearly 2,000 spins behind and no serious contenders, it's conceivable that "Bleeding Love" could spend 8,9 or even 10 weeks at the top of the chart before all is said and done. Congratulations to Leona on her continued amazing success here in the U.S. and all around the world! Idol Worship of Leona!

Yes, the much rumored about Leona Lewis appearance on American Idol finally took place last night during the results show, and from all accounts, she simply brought the house down! Leona gave the best U.S. performance of her hit "Bleeding Love" that I've ever seen and heard, hitting an amazingly high note towards the end of the song. It's received stellar reviews pretty much EVERYWHERE! Yes, even the critics are starting to warm up to Leona!

Not too surprisingly, the Idol performance has pushed "Bleeding Love" back ahead of Madonna's "4 Minutes" and into the #1 spot (by a wide margin) on iTunes. Leona's album "Spirit" has already sold over 300,000 copies here in the U.S. in only two weeks, and you just know that the Idol performance will bolster the week three sales.

On the airplay front, "Bleeding Love" continues to do incredibly well. It cracked the 10,000 spin barrier on Pop radio on Tuesday and 100 million in estimated listening audience the next day. It's now setting the Hot AC chart on fire, picking up unheard of 100+ spins a day gains in crashing the top 20 this week. She's currently at #16 there and is a shoo-in to get to the top 10 next week. Even the Rhythmic stations are taking notice of Leona as she's already up to #11 on that chart. Lastly, she's even attracting the older adult crowd, moving up to #17 on the Adult Contemporary chart as of this morning. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the sky seems to be the limit here for Leona Lewis and her hit "Bleeding Love" here in America!

Leona Nabs #1 U.S. Pop Airplay Spot!

Another day, another chart conquered for Leona Lewis and her massive hit "Bleeding Love." Today the song ascended into the #1 spot on the U.S. Pop (Top 40) radio airplay chart on Mediabase. Given that it's still gaining about 200 spins a day nationally, and no other song on the chart is gaining more than 125 a day at the moment, don't look for Leona to give up the top rung anytime soon. It's going to be a very long run at the top for pop music's newest star! Congratulations to Leona again on yet another great accomplishment!!!

Leona Makes Spirited Debut!

In case you didn't know, Leona Lewis' debut album Spirit came out in the U.S. this past Tuesday, and given the huge success of her single "Bleeding Love," the huge first week sales of the album are not at all surprising. In it's first week, Spirit sold over 205,000 copies and debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Additionally, "Bleeding Love" remains #1 on Billboard's Pop 100 chart for a third week, and returns to the #1 spot for a second week on the Hot 100 chart. With sales of nearly 225,000 units, the song also returns to #1 on the two Billboard digital sales charts... Finally, "Bleeding Love" is about to hit #1 on the pop airplay chart - currently, it sits 223 spins behind the Jordin Sparks/Chris Brown duet "No Air." With "Bleeding Love" gaining about 150 spins a day on the current leader, look for it to hit #1 on Saturday. For those of you that aren't familiar with the charts, the main number you need to pay attention to is the 1417 in the next to last column. Yes, "Bleeding Love" is growing at an even faster rate than the much-anticipated new Madonna release, "4 Minutes" and every other song out at the moment!!! At it's current rate of growth, it could very well reach #7 on the big chart by this weekend! "Bleeding Love" is all but assured of a top 5 peak, but it's looking more and more like there's just about nothing left to stop this classic song from hitting #1 on the U.S. Pop radio airplay charts! Perhaps as soon as the end of this month, Leona Lewis will have a #1 U.S. Pop airplay crown to add to her ever-growing mantle!

And a week from today, Leona's debut album Spirit will be released for all of America to enjoy. I get the feeling that "Bleeding Love" is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak in terms of Leona's potential here in the U.S. and globally.

Leona Lands at #1 on U.S. Charts!

What a week it's been for U.K. singing sensation Leona Lewis here in America. She makes her first late night T.V. appearance on Jay Leno on Monday, and now three days later, her single, "Bleeding Love" has found it's way to #1 on no less than three of Billboard's charts! With nearly 220,000 digital sales last week, "Bleeding Love" outpaced the #2 song by more than 76,000 downloads to capture the #1 position on this week's Hot Digital Songs Chart. Her 82% increase in sales over the previous week along with her continued HUGE airplay gains also fueled jumps from #8 to #1 on both the Pop 100 and Hot 100 charts!

Speaking of the radio story for "Bleeding Love," there's even MORE good news to report!!! The first call-out scores (where radio station listeners are polled) for the song are now in from RateTheMusic.com and "Bleeding Love" debuted at NUMBER 1 on the chart!!! For a brand new song by a brand new artist to debut at #1 on this chart is a pretty rare accomplishment, and it truly speaks volumes for just how well-liked "Bleeding Love" is here in the U.S.

So, what's next on the table for Leona Lewis and "Bleeding Love" here in America??? Well, one goal is probably to get to #1 on the pop airplay charts at some point. "Bleeding Love" has ascended all the way up to #12 on the Mediabase Pop chart. When you sort the chart by estimated audience instead of spins, she ranks #10! Look for "Bleeding Love" to reach #10 on the official chart (ranked by spins) over the weekend. The ascent up the pop airplay charts for new artists is usually long and hard, though a couple of other new and notable female artists (Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles) have had #2 hits on the chart over the past several months with their debut releases. Perhaps Leona will be able to break through and get to #1 there in another month or two.

On April 8th, Leona's album Spirit will be released. With the astounding success of "Bleeding Love" here in the U.S., and with no real competition that week, there's little doubt that Spirit will debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album chart. The only question is how many copies will it sell in it's first week and beyond? Don't be surprised if the album sells out very quickly at many retailers! As Oprah Winfrey said so eloquently after Leona's appearance last week there "A Star Is Born!" Indeed!

LEONA LEWIS Live on Leno!

Yes, I just got back from the NBC Studios in Burbank, where the Tonight Show starring Jay Leno is taped. Leona Lewis performed an incredible rendition of "Bleeding Love" just before the taping ended at 5 pm PT. I got incredibly lucky with my seating location as I was randomly seated to left of the stage in the 4th row, about as close to Leona as I could have ever have wished to be - only about 12 feet away!!!

My day started very early today as I got out of bed around 5:20 am... left home at 6:20 am to beat the horrible traffic, and managed to be there by 7 am! 40 minutes! I even quickly found a parking spot... I then got in line while sipping on my morning coffee. At 8am sharp, the doors to the ticket office opened. I was 8th in line. I then decided to go on the NBC Studios Tour and that was pretty cool as we got to see several sets including the set which Johnny Carson used when he did the show, along with getting a pre-view from inside the studio where Jay's show is filmed. We were in there from around 9:40-9:50 this morning, and I listened intently as they keeping playing Leona's "Bleeding Love" so that the band would be totally familiar with the song when it came time for taping... I was hoping that Leona herself would come out and do some warm-ups, but I think it was too early for that. For you soap opera fans, we also got to see one of the "Days Of Our Lives" sets. The tour lasted about an hour and 15 minutes.

After grabbing some lunch, I got in the actual line for the show and found out that I was the 10th person. While in line, I quickly acquainted myself with one of Jay's biggest fans, Glozell Green. GloZell is a blogger who has a site completely devoted to Jay called GloZell Loves Jay Leno, where you can find several pictures that she took... that's her with me (below), and I'm also in two pictures on her site. GloZell knows all of the in's and out's of going to the Tonight Show. For instance, did you know that if you're amongst the first 30 people in line, you're guaranteed a seat for that day's taping? If you're any later than that, there is the possibility you won't get in. It was a lot of fun getting to know GloZell and all of the other great people who came to see the show! For the record, GloZell's been to 336 tapings of Jay's show since 2006! You go girl!

As for the show itself, I of course came to see Leona perform... Since it was a Monday, Jay of course did his usual "Headlines" skit... which was very good as always. The funniest part though may have been a parody that was done of Tiger Woods' latest Nike commercial where John Melendez loses a few teeth... If you've seen the commerical, you'll soon understand. :) Actor Peter O'Toole and Comedian Katt Williams provided some comic relief. Peter was his usual funny self, and Katt (outside of one unnecessary comment) was also very funny. Overall, they were both pretty enjoyable.

Leona then took the stage a little before 5pm in a stunning black and white dress. I had no idea when they opened the stage door that she would be right at the edge of it, only 12 or so feet away from where I was perched... Those four minutes of her performing "Bleeding Love" were simply AMAZING! She hit so many high notes, and people in the audience gave her a rousing ovation afterwards!!! I'm pretty sure she saw me as I was the closest one to her to stand first... Even Jay was VERY impressed, talking to Leona for several minutes after the taping was done. Leona then went off to the backstage area... and with that I hit the road about 5:15, being very thankful that things went so perfectly well!

Leona Lewis Shines on Oprah!

I knew Oprah would fall in love with her after her appearance... and boy did she ever - and so did her fans! U.K. singing sensation Leona Lewis was on the Oprah Winfrey show yesterday and pretty much blew everyone away with her performance of her hit single "Bleeding Love." Simon Cowell of American Idol fame here in the U.S. proudly introduced Leona for her first ever live performance in front of a studio audience. Simon and Leona were on the first twenty minutes or so of the show. Oprah said "you're the real deal, girl!" Yes, she REALLY loved Leona! Leona Turning U.S. Charts RED!

The remarkable run of British singing sensation Leona Lewis continues here in the U.S. The only question is to where to start with telling the story!



Well, on iTunes, "Bleeding Love" is currently the #3 most downloaded song! Next Monday, she's going to be on the Oprah Winfrey Show. I'm sure most of you know by now what an Oprah appearance does to sales. With Mariah Carey pushing the release of her latest single back to March 24th, there's little doubt that "Bleeding Love" will be #1 on iTunes after Leona's Oprah appearance!

How about the radio story? Well, that's developing as well. At the moment, "Bleeding Love" is at #25 on the Mediabase pop chart. Amongst all pop songs, "Bleeding Love" is the third biggest gainer in spins this week with an increase of 867 plays! WNOU 100.9 in Indianapolis is leading the way, being the first station in America to put "Bleeding Love" in it's "power" rotation, giving it 100 spins the past week! On Tuesday night, "Bleeding Love" was the #1 most requested song on New York's Z-100 Interactive 9 at 9 countdown. Boston's KISS 108 just added "Bleeding Love" this week, already giving it 42 spins out of the box this week! Washington DC's bleeding for Leona too, with Hot 99.5 adding her this week and giving her 22 spins already. Finally, and I do mean FINALLY I am happy to say that my local sorta top 40 station, 102.7 KIIS FM here in Los Angeles officially added her to their playlist yesterday. They've only spun "Bleeding Love" six times so far, but expect it to get as big there as it's getting everywhere else!

Billboard's Pop 100 chart combines sales and pop radio airplay to give you an idea of what songs are the most popular here in America. Leona Lewis to be on Oprah!

The rumored appearance of U.K. singing senation Leona Lewis on the Oprah Winfrey show has been confirmed by her official website. Leona will be appearing on Oprah on Monday, March 17th and will be singing her #1 international smash hit, "Bleeding Love." Released just one month ago to radio stations here in America, the song is already up to #29 on the Mediabase pop chart, and also is currently the 12th most downloaded song on all of iTunes. America's Bleeding Love For Leona!

Yes, I know it's only been four days since my last Leona Lewis update, but things are moving rather swiftly here in America as "Bleeding Love" continues to make waves EVERYWHERE!

Since I last wrote, "Bleeding Love" has ascended to #21 on the iTunes chart. Up 11 more spots the past four days! Yes, the cracking top 20 seems to be just a matter of hours away!

The radio airplay story on "Bleeding Love" continues it's slow, yet steady development. It's now up to #35 on the Mediabase pop chart, despite being played on barely half of the nation's major top 40 music stations. It's a similar story on the rhythmic chart, where it's at #47 on the chart with less than 30% of the panel's reporters playing it. Long story short is there's A LOT of room for growth for "Bleeding Love" here on American radio, and once the buzz really starts getting huge, watch out!

The video outlets are also continuing to HUGELY be into Leona. VH1 is showing the video for "Bleeding Love" twice a day, and now even FUSE TV has begun playing it!

Some of you have asked me how to best support Leona. I have received several good suggestions and ideas from many of you. I'll mix them in with some of mine and with our combined efforts, we can really make this bird fly!

For starters, if you have not already done so, please spend a dollar or so buy "Bleeding Love" off of iTunes or some similar site.

Also, if you happen to be one of the lucky ones who is hearing "Bleeding Love" on your local radio station, tell them how much you LOVE the song and also make sure to request it! If your station isn't playing it yet, politely ask them to start!

Another great way to support "Bleeding Love" is to vote for her on weekly on VH1's top 20 video countdown. The first week out, she got enough votes to be #7 in the countdown!!! Last week though, she didn't make the top 20! So, let's get to voting and get her back on the countdown where she belongs!

Leona also has a Myspace and a Facebook account, so add her as a friend and also get "Bleeding Love" on your profile so that your friends, family and other visitors can hear it!
